2025 has just started, but it’s set to be a remarkable year for games. A new Nintendo console is about to be announced, meaning we will have some great start titles for it. Along with that, a lot of games have been announced for this year, and some games do not have a release date yet will be released in 2025 after a short trailer dropped some time.
In no particular order (although one game truly stands out as a remarkable video game event here), let’s look at some games that have been confirmed for 2025 and see what will make them so great and special and we should be excited for them.
A new game by a video game auteur Hideo Kojima is always a great event in the video games’ world. The perfect blend of cinematic experience, unique gameplay mechanics and exciting weirdness is what makes Kojima’s games so special and outstanding, and DS2 will not be an exception. The original game was a very uncommon take on pacifism, unification, walking and delivery mechanics, making a chore into an engaging gameplay experience with a surreal story, and we can’t wait to see what Kojima is cooking for a new game that is supposed to be bigger and even more peculiar than the previous installment. A lot of which are played by Norman Reedus and Lea Seydoux are making a comeback, and a lot of new characters like a character played by Margaret Qualley will be added too.
Metroid Prime is a cult series by Nintendo, a beloved game developer from Japan. When it was first announced in 2017, Metroid Prime 4 brought a lot of hype and excitement but sadly was reported to start development from scratch in 2019. Finally, Nintendo is ready to release a new game in 2025, perfectly aligned with the new console release. A lot of interesting places to explore, great mechanics for your suit upgrades to reach new places you couldn’t reach before, fun and engaging bosses to deal with as you crawl through a very unfriendly planet – it’s going to be a great experience for all players who like classic Metroidvania gameplay transported into 3D.
A seventh installment of a cult classic, familiar to both older and younger gamers, thanks to its previous games, unusual take on real-time strategy and paradoxical simplicity and complexity. New ages to discover, leaders to play as and ways to win: by whether a being a wise leader or brute force and become a war expert. You can follow common historical paths, or try out something different and see how well you can avoid obstacles on your path to glory.
Another classic in our list, DOOM is beloved by all ages of gamers. The original 1993 release still holds up quite well and is still being regularly ported to unusual places (a pdf file is the most recent one!). Rebooted in 2016, DOOM has gained a new wave of popularity. Its simple gameplay loop and addictive speed managed to win over many players. A new game in the series is going to tell us a story set in a medieval setting, allowing you to use a throwing shield and participate in big-scale battles.
What makes a new game in a beloved series so special is that it takes place on a new planet. But in general, it’s a classic looter shooter experience that is so loved by the franchise’s fans: coop fun with friends and online strangers, a ridiculous amount of guns with various types of specs, a bestiary of enemies to shoot again and again, to get a better loot out of them – this simple gameplay has proven to be a great relaxing method to unwind after a hard working day by many Borderlands fans.
Elden Ring was one of the most critically acclaimed games of 2022 and, let’s be honest, of all time. It took a fan’s favorite atmosphere of a dark, unfriendly fantasy world and made it much more open for exploration. Nightreign, however, is about to flip the table: it’s going to be an online-oriented boss rush you can complete on your own or with the help of two more friends. Even bosses from previous FromSoftware games will make an appearance, surprisingly! While it seems like a pretty distinct departure from the common FromSoftware style, there are gamers excited about it and eager to play it and have lots of fun, dying, again and again and again…
A sequel to a Sony epic samurai action RPG that found its audience with the original, Ghost of Tsushima, which now is about to have a sequel, taking place in a new area to explore, more than 300 years later after the events of the original, with a new character and, hopefully, some new great game mechanics to explore and have fun with. Some people enjoy it for samurai aesthetics, but the heart of the Ghost series lies in how gorgeous medieval, feudal Japan can look if you’re ready to explore its nooks and crannies.
Yet another sequel in our list, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is about to expand the medieval European realistic life sim and make it bigger, more epic and interesting. The same hero is here to return and avenge his dead family, but the world around him and even our hero are going to change: it’s been quite some time since we met. Ambitious sequel to a fan's favorite has all the chances to become one of the most critically acclaimed games of 2025.
A new game in one of the biggest gaming series in the world will take place in Japan, which has been a rumored and desired destination for series that previously took places in various places all over the world. It’s pretty different from another Japan-based game we mentioned in this list: Assassin’s Creed is all about intricate connections between templars and assassins during our history. Two central characters, a shinobi and a samurai, are available for players, each possessing a unique combat system.
Not just a game’s release, but a massive worldwide event. One of the biggest franchises ever, and the biggest release of 2025 that literally forces other publishers to make sure they won’t release their games near to GTA VI – the competition will be insane if they do. Very few things are known – the city, the characters, the setting – but you can say for sure that GTA VI will be everywhere – that’s how Rockstar Games operate. Prepare for regular discussions, memes, various kinds of videos – even if you’re not playing these types of games and even if you don’t play games at all, you will certainly catch a glimpse or two of what this game has to offer
As you see, 2025 is going to be insane, in the best possible way.Whatever you’re looking for in 2025, we hope the games will be fun and worthy of your time! It’s great to see so many games finally being released or some anticipated titles being finally out.
