We design casual game art and 2D assets for casual games – our casual artists created this custom 2D asset pack for Bingo Story by Clipwire Games
The main goal on this project was to keep the fast pace of 2D assets production and still achieve the high quality of the resulted casual art. Our 2D art team has been working closely with our dear partners from Clipwire Games and managed to set up the workflow based on the requirements set forth in the project brief. We are happy to have delivered a quality 2D assets in a casual art style for Bingo Story.
Although casual art style might sound a little vague, it resumes a specific type of graphic design that focuses on a particular atmosphere and gameplay. By being referred to as casual, this type of art is strongly present in standard people’s routines, mainly through games that don’t appeal directly to a “gamer” audience. Instead, this art style is primarily predominant in mobile games that don’t require hardcore gaming skills from the player and provides rather relaxing, non-violent experience.
A casual art style can follow distinct artistical profiles; still, they mostly appear as stylized graphics. In games, they can also foster realistic drawings and assets; it mainly depends on the gameplay. For example, story-driven games that follow decision-based gameplay with many chapters and episodes often depict real-life topics. Hence, most games that foster this type of campaign tend to favor realism to enrich immersion. Commonly, some will portray a mix of stylized and realistic drawings. On the other hand a popular Match-3, Puzzle and Bingo-type games frequently utilize through the casual graphics.
Games portraying a casual art style have advantages in various spheres of game development. Casual games generally have design principles: they are accessible and straightforward to pick up and learn, often offering an addictive gameplay loop. Consequently, you’ll find that it’s conveniently more swift to develop ideas and mechanics for the game. Therefore, the game art turns out conveniently light and at the same time atmospheric. The gameplay itself mainly follows a loop. For example, Bingo Story provides an exciting Bingo experience game where the players compete in real time tournaments and complete story book character puzzles thus uncovering new stories throughout the game season. Although casual art in general does not have strict rules concerning drawings, shapes, or animations, each casual game does have a rules and guidelines that the artist needs to follow including Bingo Story. At all stages of production our art team adheres to the art guidelines and checks that our art direction is in line with the key requirements of the style.
Since the games in the casual art style tend to stray away from complexity they do not require utilizing a costly hardware from the user - that's why they are so popular on mobile market. By the way, it's quite convenient to create a marketing content for a casual game by utilizing the in-game illustrations and key art as well as screenshots and gifs. Updating and developing the game after its launch will have a positive impact on the players, but it needs to be regular especially since the mobile gamers expect the consistency. That's why we are so happy to be able to work on the Bingo Story from season to season providing regular content deliveries.

The character in a casual game should appear as simple-yet-friendly, and not too complex. Although sometimes it's allowed to add a bit of personality to the character’s apparel, an artist has to avoid too much realism. In this sense, there is no need to provide the protagonist with overly detailed physical properties. The environment in casual style should prioritize playable surfaces and interactive assets without fermenting too much lore information on the player’s mind. Instead, it’s all about relaxing and playing casually. Casual games represent something you can play while relaxing. So, develop something that has straightforward mechanics that don’t require extensive tutorials, is easy to get in and out, and provides a sense of progress to the player.
